KHON2 - Thousands gather for Waikiki Spam Jam food festival
Waikiki is gearing up for one of its most anticipated food festivals of the year, bringing together thousands to celebrate Hawaii’s unique culinary culture and love for Spam.
Toby Tamaye with Waikiki Spam Jam and Brendon Lin, assistant manager of Buho, joined Living808 to share what makes this event so special and what food lovers can expect this year.
Waikiki Spam Jam continues to shine a spotlight on Hawaii’s vibrant food scene, giving both established restaurants and rising concepts a platform to showcase their creativity.
Toby shared that the festival not only draws an incredible crowd, but also highlights the diversity and innovation that define local cuisine. It is a chance for the community to come together, support local businesses, and celebrate flavors that are uniquely Hawaii.
At Buho, that creativity is on full display with a menu designed to stand out in a high-energy environment. Brendon explained that their team looks forward to Spam Jam every year as a way to connect with the community and share the Aloha spirit they bring to their restaurant in Waikiki. This year, they are serving up a lineup of bold, crowd-pleasing dishes including Spam tacos, Spam nachos, street corn, and churros.
With thousands of attendees expected, one of the biggest challenges is balancing speed and quality while keeping up with demand. Brendon shared that it takes careful planning and teamwork to deliver dishes that meet their standards while serving such a large crowd. At the same time, the competition pushes them to stay creative and continue elevating their offerings.
Beyond Spam Jam, Buho is also preparing for another exciting celebration. With Cinco de Mayo around the corner, the restaurant is planning a festive experience in the heart of Waikiki that brings together energy, flavor, and cultural celebration.
Waikiki Spam Jam is set to once again transform Kalakaua Avenue into a lively celebration of food, community, and creativity. For more about Spam Jam visit their website.
